Dad's Vacation

Thought I would show you how Dad has been spending his vacations. This project started just prior to Thanksgiving. Nate and I demoed the wall around the window and then when Dad came home, he started putting it back together.
He finished the drywall and then started painting. Today (28) he is finishing putting the Laminate flooring down. Then we have just the base to get and a little touch up painting and the room is ready for use.

Next project: the computer room.

Thanks for a Lovely Christmas

We sure had a great Christmas at our house. It started with a nice walk, Copper, Dad and me. Evanston is a little chilly. It was 3 degrees when we started out The sun started to shine and we kept warm by walking briskly.
All the presents were perfect. Thanks so much for everything.
Tinkerbelle continues to be delightful. She loves to hang out with Copper in the back porch. She is not too happy to be there when Copper is outside.

These pictures are for Michelle and Jon. Tinkerbelle is doing well. Maybe she needs to live with us all the time. Merry Christmas to everyone. (That is our resident Christmas Elf, Nate, with the dogs. Copper seems to like Tinkerbelle, but Kidten the Cat isn't so happy.

Home, but it was so fun

Nate and I just returned home from our before Christmas vacation. We spent a long weekend with dad in MD. We flew out of SLC on Wed. and landed in a winter storm. The ground was white and it was cold.
Thurs. Dad, Nate, and I went to the Redskins-Bears game. That was a great time. The Redskins even won. NFL games are a lot of fun to go to and being in a sky box is even more fun. No food to buy; everything is catered. Roast Turkey, Ham, Lamb, but my favorite was the macaroni and cheese with crab and lobster.
Friday we went over to the outlets on the Eastern Shore to do a little shopping and then ate lunch at the "Fisherman Inn" in Kent Narrows or Kent Island. The cream of crab soup was wonderful. Later that evening dad and I went to the Valcourt Christmas Party at Fed Ex Field. Dinner was served in the owners suite. There is no way to describe what that is like. The highlight of the evening was when we were treated to a tour of the Redskins Dressing Room. Here is a picture of Dad and I on the field. That was a lot of fun.
Saturday, the boys got up and traveled to York for a little b-ball. They had a great time. Dad and I then went shopping and stopped at the office, then picked Nate up and traveled to Baltimore for a little Italian food. Maybe you have eaten at Sabitinos. The food is still great. After eating we then headed down to DC to see the Christmas lights. Pictures of Sat. evening will follow later. After seeing the National Christmas Tree, we headed to the temple to see the lights there. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
We hopped on our return flight this morning and were greeted with about 6 inches of new snow. It is very cold, but so pretty.

Latest project

We here in Evanston had a wonderful, quiet Thanksgiving. Prior to Dad coming home, Nate and I demolished the exterior wall. Dad got busy re-wiring, insulating, and putting drywall up. We were hoping to get far enough for me to paint, but we didn't get quite that far. Oh well, I have plenty to keep me busy without painting.
Nate and I take our trip this week to Maryland for 5 days. We leave on Wed. Thurs. the Redskins have a game at Fed Ex field and we are excited about that and then on Friday is the Valcourt Christmas party. On Sat. we hope to do some Christmas shopping in the Baltimore area.
Chelly and I were planning on doing some shopping in Park City today, but it is snowing really hard here and Chelly said it is really snow hard in Orem, so our fun day is out. Hope we can get together before Christmas.

Holidays are Coming

Hi guys:
This is a reminder from Ma that regardless of the weather, (we will get close to 60 today) that Christmas is coming up fast. I would like to have some ideas what to get each of you--things you really would like. Trips to the Bahamas are out. I need to save money for my trips, you realize. Seriously, I need some ideas. The kids are pretty easy, but if there are things out there that Allyson, Ryan, Isaac, and Evan need and Benjamin, too, please send them to me. Sizes would be appreciated as well.

We are ready to start our next re-model project. We (Nate and I) are going to start the demo on the spare bedroom this weekend. We should be able to finish most--except painting and floor--when Dad is home over Thanksgiving.
I have to brag about Nate, too. His grade point Average as of this morning is 3.37. Now for you brainy kids, (Allyson, Ryan) 3.37 for Nate is excellent. He has 107% welding. He will have all A's by Thanksgiving. We are proud of him, as we are of all of you. Have a good week.

THE HELICOPTER RIDE

Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year, and every year Morris would say, "Esther, I'd like to ride in that helicopter."
Esther would reply, " I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars and fifty dollars is fifty dollars."
One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, "Esther, I'm 85 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, might never get another chance."
Esther replied, "Morris, that helicopter ride is fifty dollars and fifty dollars is fifty dollars."
The pilot overheard the couple and said, "Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word I won't charge you! But if you say oen word, it's fifty dollars."
Morris and Esther agreed and up they went.
The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word. When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, "By golly, I did everythhing I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!"
Morris replied, "Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know fifty dollars is fifty dollars."

Thanks for Coming

I suppose everyone is home now after a fun filled weekend in Utah. It was certainly fun to have all the Turner kids and grandkids together. Sorry about the Saturday snow storm which kept everyone from traveling to Wyoming for dinner. The weather since then has been beautiful. Here are some photos that were taken with Dad's camera.
We do have the world's cutest grandkids. (And the best behaved ones, also.)

This coming Weekend

Everyone is invited up on Saturday to help Dad celebrate his ?? birthday. We are planning on having a nice dinner; turkey and all the trimmings. Cheryl, Jason, and Benjamin have promised they will be here to help Dad enjoy his early birthday. I think Jason and Nate have planned some activities, too. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
Let's plan on eating around 3 or so. Just let me know if you are going to make it and what time works best for you. Everyone travel safely. Love, Mom

My Time

While the big boys were out in the ID sun, Cheryl and I spent the day with Benjamin. Let me just say, he is the perfect first baby. He is super cute and he has a wonderful disposition. He doesn't fuss except to let you know he is hungry, which is he often, and when he needs his pants changed, which he needs often, also.
We took him for his first stroller ride Sat. morning at the Rexburg Nature Park. Then we stopped in to see the boys in downtown Rexburg. I still laugh at Nate's hairdo which done by a couple of beauty school students. (I wonder how the Body Art Booth at Rexburg Unplugged was received. It seemed to be a bite out of place.)
Benjamin and Cheryl both had had a busy day, so we went back home so they could take a nap.
Later that evening, the new parents left Benjamin at home for the first time while they went grocery shopping. They trust Grandma enough to leave him with me.
Sunday morning, Benjamin got to met his Great Aunt Carma for the first time, too. Busy time for the little guy. Here are some more pictures. Enjoy!!!!

Nate and I drove again this weekend to Sugar City to spend the weekend with the Kimber Family. This is becoming a habit. Just look at what happens to Nate when we let him spend a quiet Saturday with Jason. (in Rexburg, no less) Thanks Jason, Nate had a great time at Rexburg Unplugged with you.

Being Grandma

I have been "Grandma" for a little over eight years now. I haven't really enjoyed the title until this weekend. Four of my five grandkids, which I adore greatly, have always lived far away. We lived in PA and they lived in Provo and when we got ready to move to WY, they moved to NM. It is hard to be grandma when you only see them once or twice a year and for just a short time. Thirteen hours is a long way.

Nate and I just returned from our second straight weekend in ID visiting Benjamin James. It is 4.5 hours from our house to Cheryl's in Sugar City and that includes stops to fill Nate up and road construction. It was so much fun watching him do all the things that I remember my own kids do so long ago. It was fun giving him his first bath and holding him whenever I had the chance. (Which was most of the time.)
It was fun watching Jason and Cheryl hurry and do the laundry when he "sprinkled" the bed for them.

After this weekend, being a grandma means more than just feeling older and grayer. I need to find a way to get to Albuquerque more often to spend "more, better" time with my other precious grandkids. (And by the way, more grandkids are better.)

More Benjamin

WE were sorry to miss Evan's blessing. We are excited to meet him and visit with Allyson, Ryan, and Isaac when Cheryl and Jason bless Benjamin. Here is a fun picture of Nate holding Benjamin and one with Grandpa holding him, too. I love the picture of Nate. It took him a little while to warm up to Benjamin, but as you can see, he looks like he is enjoying his new nephew.

We just returned from our quick trip to Sugar City/Rexburg to visit our newest grandson, Benjamin James Kimber. Just as all previous grandchild, Benjamin is adorable and good natured.

Goings on

Wow, I can't believe how long it has been since I last blogged. I did so much over the summer, I don't remember it all. It was a very fun summer, and in some ways I am sad to see it end.
Nate is back in school. Today was day #2. He has welding, English, Math, Seminary, and Physical Conditioning. He is very focused and plans on doing very well this year. The promise of a '66 Mustang at the end of the year has helped a lot.
Dad (Roy) returns home Wed. night. He has a very long list of things that need to get done and as this might be his last trip home before winter, it is vital that he gets most of them done.
We are anxiously awaiting grandchild #5's arrival. Cheryl has been on bed rest for the since Friday. She is ready for Benjamin's safe arrival. It should be this weekend.
I am trying to get the yard ready for winter. It has been very dry this year, but I have the yard looking pretty good.
Let me recap our fun summer for you.
Nate flew to MD on June 15. I left for ID as soon as he was on the plane. I took Copper up to Carma's and spent a fun weekend with Cheryl, Carma, and my Dad. We took in an air show in Rexburg and later went to Grand Teton for a picnic. It was a great time.
I flew to MD on June 19 where we took in an Orioles game, Jimmy Buffet Concert, a trip to Philadelphia on July 1-2, Washington DC on the Fourth of July, numerous trips to York for basketball and church, and some nice eats. Nate and I returned on July 10.
Shelle came up for a weekend of fun, while we were home and we went hiking in the Uintas. She brought her cute little pup with her. We had a great time.
Nate and I returned to MD on July 25 with the main purpose being the Baseball Hall of Fame Inductions. We spent July27-29 in Cooperstown with Carolyn and Stew. It was an amazing sight. 75,000 baseball fans, most of them Cal Ripken fans.
I returned on July 31 and prepared to spend a week with Cheryl.
I got up to Carma's on Aug. 5 and spent the 6th-10 with Cheryl. We did baby stuff and just chilled out. I did squeeze a trip to Yellowstone on Friday. I had a wonderful time.
Nate returned home on the 13th. Shelle and I had a great time on Friday the 17 as I traveled to Orem for Dan Potter's wedding reception. That was a blast. The Potter's are now living in Provo. Hopefully we will be able to get together with them sometime when Dad is home.
Saturday Nate and I traveled to Sugar City, where we played with Carolyn, Michelle, and Cheryl. I had a great time with 4 of my 5 kids.
Yes, I has been a very fun summer.

Playing Baseball

Nathan and Dad enjoyed playing a little baseball in the evenings. My throwing arm isn't what it used to be, so I sat out most evenings. Here are a couple of baseball pictures from our trip to Mt. Vernon. We drove down the George Washington Parkway, which runs from No. Virginia to Mt. Vernon. There are several little parks along the way. We stopped and played a little catch and Dad and I went for a nice walk along the Potamac River.

Here is a picture from Federal Hill in Baltimore. This was the first time I had been up there, but Dad, Carolyn, and Stew were there when The Forbes visited Dad in May. The Inner Harbor was very beautiful on this summer afternoon.

Fireworks

When it was time for the fireworks, we walked from our hotel to the Lincoln Memorial. We were sitting on the grass off to the left of the Memorial. The display was wonderful. It was even better than the fireworks we saw in Baltimore. Then we walked back to the hotel and had a great night sleep. We missed all the after firework traffic and Dad got to work on time the next day. (After dropping us off at his townhouse, Dad drove back to Downtown DC to have lunch with a client. Does any of this sense?)

Recap

I had better get back to keeping everyone updated on our trip back East. As far as I can tell all of us had a great time. Nate really enjoyed working with Dad. He has learned that money that you earn is more difficult to spend. He is definately more cautious on his purchases.
The guys went to York for 4 Saturdays to play basketball. They still have basketball after all these years. Nathan's arms are long enough so he can block some of the shots and make some steals. Dad says he still has a great jump shot.
Nate got to spend the night with Joe Abramson in Red Lion, too. The boys went to the movie, too.
We spent the 4th of July in Washington. We got a hotel room across the street from George Washington Univ. It was close enough that we could walk to the Mall. It was warm, but not too bad. A tornado warning was issued while we were back in the room cooling down, so we missed that excitement. After a nice rainstorm, the weather cleared and the fireworks went on as scheduled.

Happy Fourth of July to everyone:
Just a quick update of our doings on the East Coast. Thursday was the "big" Jimmy Buffet Concert at the Nissan Pavilion in VA. Dad and I had a great time. We now own ONE JB Cd. We really did enjoy ourselves.
Saturday afternoon we headed for Philadelphia to spend Sunday being tourists. We took a bus tour around the city, took lots of pictures, and had an authetic Philly Cheese Steak.
For the Fourth of July, we will be watching the fireworks in DC. What better way to spend the 4th.

Maryland Happenings

Hello from MD and nearby locations. We are having a great time seeing and doing as much as possible. Before LeAnn arrived, Nathan and Dad had a few days of non-stop fun including baseball games at Camden Yards (Orioles lost to AZ diamondbacks -- we consoled ourselves with pasta at Sabatino's after the embarrasment) and the new ballpark in Philladelphia (Phillies beat the defending AL champion Detroit Tigers). We also played basketball in York on Saturday morning and went school clothes shopping for the boy.

After LeAnn arrived, the fun didn't stop. After recovering from a 3:30 am arrival we have been to the Inner Harbor twice, Little Italy once, Phillips Seafood once, York twice (once for basketball and once for church; Byron Wilson is now the Bishop of York I), Mount Vernon, the Potomoc River Wildlife Preserve, and a couple of walks around the office park. While at the Inner Harbor Sunday afternoon, we walked to the top of Federal Hill. Cool pictures of the Inner Harbor will follow in a few days.

This weeks upcoming events include an Oriole/Yankees game, Jimmy Buffet concert, Bowie Baysox game, another trip to Mt. Vernon, and hopefully, a trip to the shore. It is likely that Nathan and Dad will make the trip to York for Saturday morning hoops for the third and fourth week in a row. We are having a great time, and wish you were all here.

Christmas Meadows

The center picture, seen below, is Cheryl at our picnic site in Christmas Meadow last week. She was visiting Nate and me for a couple of days. We decided to go on a picnic and cook foil dinners so we drove up to C.M. which is Dad and my favorite spot in the whole wide world. While gathering firewood, I spotted a bull moose and when I got looking closer, there was a cow with him. Cool Stuff.

Hey, Shelly and Jon--why don't we try to do a camping trip the weekend of July 20-22 in the Uintas.

Well, I'm back to getting ready for vacation.

Vacation Time

Well, things around here are very quiet. The dog is at Carma's and Nate is out in MD. I'm trying to get things ready to go, but my allergies are driving me crazy. I leave tomorrow about noon for the airport. Grandma T. is driving me down. From what I understand, the boys are having a great time. They went to the Orioles game Friday night and had a late meal at this little Italian spot--some of you may know the name. Saturday morning they went to York to join the early morning basketball game. Dad took Nate shopping for some well needed clothes. They then went to the Phillies game, spent the night in Philly, and then went to York 1 for church. Byron Wilson is the bishop now at York 1 for all who keep up on York news. Girls Camp started this morning, too. While the boys were having fun, I traveled to ID where I left Copper at Carma's. Grandpa S. came along for the ride. We had dinner at Cheryl and Jason's Friday night and then went back to Carma's to sleep. We got up Saturday morning and went to the Rexburg Air Show. It was really nice. It was a pleasant day--the wind wasn't blowing too hard. After the airshow we went back to Carma's and prepared for a picnic at Grand Teton. I had a great time. We built a camp fire at String Lake, which is a beautiful, quiet place. Carma showed us a new camping dessert called "Woofers" When we all get together Cheryl and I will show you how to make them. Carma and I rode our bikes from Teton Village to the main road, which was just over six miles. That was fun, too. Poor Cheryl was pretty much pooped by the time she got home.
